Many people are confused about architects, what they do and who is actually an architect. The title "Architect" is a legally protected title. People claiming the title "Architect" without having a license are violating the law. Depending on the state, this can include prison time or large fines.
Licensed Architects have the responsibility of protecting the public health, safety, and welfare in the buildings they design. This includes designing buildings for fire protection, keeping weather out, reducing sick-building syndrome, ensuring good lighting, acoustics, etc.
Unlicensed home designers are legally allowed to operate because in most states, an architectural license is not required for single family homes and duplexes. Yet, because they are unlicensed, the consumer has no recourse except law suits to redress their grievances. Because Architects are licensed, they are held to a much higher "Standard of Care". This results in the client getting a much higher quality design that considers a multitude of factors that are often forgotten by home designers.
At DEIV Architecture and Design, our highest commitment is to providing our clients with the best quality design in compliance with all local, state, and federal statutes and guilelines. We aim for perfection in this responsibility. However, perfection is not possible with humans involved. We recognize this flaw, and are committing to redressing issues that arise. Mistakes will happen, but we are committed to reducing them and correcting them when they do happen.
